Deben Music

Welcome to Deben Music. Founded in 1993, we are publishers of musical arrangements and original compositions for woodwind instruments. We stock pieces for a wide range of abilities from school groups to professionals, specialising in music for flute groups and flute choirs, wind quintets, and mixed trios and quartets.

Much of our music is tailored for students, and approximate Associated Board grades are shown for each piece on the Price List page.

We are popular with teachers because the emphasis is on a balanced arrangement, making sure that each player has an interesting part to play — too many other arrangements place the melody on the top line and give only basic harmony parts to the rest.

Popular pieces

One of our best-sellers is Fiesta Mexicana (4 flutes) which is very lively and rhythmical, suitable for players of grade 4-5 standard.
Tony Radford's original compositions were all written for school groups: Transverse Blues (3 flutes & rhythm section) for GCSE performance, to show off the players' ensemble and individual skills, and Latin 'n' Blues (3 flutes & keyboard) which can be played by pupils from grade 1 upwards.
For larger ensembles, suitable for adult groups, students and schools, Robin Soldan's arrangement of Bach's Badinerie for 8 flutes (including 2 altos and a bass, plus piccolos) is very popular. Similarly so is the Ballet Music from Faust, arranged for flute choir by Sylvia Fairley. Frantisek Pok's wind quintets are popular - quite demanding arrangements, originally made for, and regularly performed by, the Academia Wind Quintet of Prague. The Clog Dance from La Fille Mal Gardee (arr. Fairley) has worldwide appeal, and is listed on the double wind quintet site of the Washington Library.
