Le Piccadilly — Satie arr. Sylvia Fairley [Grades 5-6]
Score and parts: £7.50
“Le Piccadilly is in ragtime style, but needs to be played in a more swaggering fashion than the later piano rags of Scott Joplin. This arrangement works well for the intended instruments, and should be readily accessible to players of around grade 6 standard.” — PAN magazine 2006

Nutcracker Suite — Tchaikovsky arr. František Pok [Grades 7-8+]
Score and parts: £12.50
František Pok has chosen to arrange six excerpts from the ballet: the sparkling Overture, the Danse des Mirlitons, the Trepak which is a traditional Ukrainian dance, the Danse Arabe, smoothly dark in texture with an hypnotic rhythm and melody, and the Danse Chinois, comical in its bass figurations and notable for avoiding the cliché of pentatonic melody. The finale is the Valse des Fleurs, one of Tchaikovsky’s finest waltzes.

The famous Clog Dance, performed in the ballet by Widow Simone, danced in pantomime style by a man. Black Stick Rag for 5 clarinets in Bb — Tony Radford [Grades 3-6]
Score and 5 parts: £9.00

Paula: a Bossa Nova for clarinet quartet & piano or rhythm section — Tony Radford [Grades 5-6]
Score and 4 clarinet parts + piano: £11.50
“The ‘lead’ role is shared more or less equally between the four clarinet parts. However, the 1st clarinet part is the most technically demanding and uses the highest tessitura of the four parts. The piece should ideally have a rhythm section of piano, or guitar and bass without piano.” — Tony Radford
Orpheus in the Underworld: Selection — Offenbach arr. Sylvia Fairley for 2 flutes & 2 clarinets in Bb [Grades 4-5]
Score and 4 parts: £10.00
“…here, Sylvia Fairley has selected several of the most famous tunes and arranged them neatly for 2 flutes and 2 clarinets. Every part has its share of melodic interest, and I am sure four players of grade 4 or 5 standard would enjoy playing this selection very much.” — PAN magazine 2005

Gay rejected the artificiality of the Italian opera and used popular tunes and ballads of the day to which he added his own lyrics. Four of the most charming airs have been chosen for this arrangement.

Two Traditional Spirituals — arr. Tony Radford [Grade 4-5]
Score and parts: soprano, alto, tenor and bass: £10.00
Steal Away & Joshua. Although the spirituals of the Afro-American slaves appear on one level to be simple, religious songs, they were also used to pass on encoded messages and plans for escape. When we know that ‘Jesus’ was the name of one of the ferry-boats on the escape route, the words of Steal Away to Jesus take on another meaning…
Elegy for flexible saxophone ensemble — by Craig Rickards [Grade 5+]

An optional drum part is included as well as instructions for a keyboard with pre-set rhythms, also optional.

Two Character Sketches: Introvert & Extrovert for oboe and piano — by Paul Fenoulhet [Grade 5-6]
Oboe and piano: £7.50
Introvert is based on a circular oboe melody over piquant piano chords: the central, nervously playful section shares its material between the instruments. Extrovert opens with a jolly, almost martial theme: the piano part features ebullient chords based on 4ths and 5ths. A contrasting, more lyrical melody is floated over sumptuous arpeggios for the piano, before returning to the mood of the opening section.
Mosaics for Bb clarinet and piano — by Sylvia Fairley [Grade 6-7]
Clarinet and Piano: £5.00
Mosaics is built on a mixture of chromatic and gypsy scales and sequences. This very effective piece contrasts a reflective, improvisatory opening with a nimble allegro and a more melodic legato section. The improvisatory music returns at the end to complete the piece.

Full score and 7 parts: £11.50 (extra parts 40p each)
Mozart wrote his Ave Verum Corpus only months before he died. It is a short work of great beauty and simplicity, the vocal parts being well suited to the timbre of flutes in this sensitive arrangement by Robin Soldan.

The middle section involves all three players having a solo line, with accompanying interjections from the other two, while in the last part they come together again.” — PAN magazine 2006

Dance a Cachucha — Sullivan arr. Sylvia Fairley for 4 flutes in C [Grade 4-6]
Full score and 4 parts: £7.50 (extra parts 40p each)
‘Wine when it flows in abundance, enhances/ The reckless delight of the wildest of dances…’ The Cachucha, from Gilbert & Sullivan’s Gondoliers, is sung and danced with great gusto when Giannetta and Tessa are reunited with their ‘gallant gondoleiri’, Marco and Guisappe. The music is within the grasp of players of about grade 4 standard, but to play it with the necessary panache, a standard of grade 5 – 6 would be needed.
Minuetto from L’Arlésienne Suite no.1 — Bizet arr. Sylvia Fairley for 4 flutes in C [Grade 6-7]
Full score and parts: £9.50 (extra parts 60p each)

“…Four good players of about grade 6 standard are needed to make a success of this arrangement, which gives everyone a chance to play the melodic line. Lots of dynamic control and contrast encourage a high level of concentration throughout.” — PAN magazine 2004
Flutes Play Fledermaus — Strauss arr. Sylvia Fairley for 4 flutes in C with piano [Grade 4-6]
Flute score, 4 parts + piano: £11.50
“…The opening finds all four flutes in rhymic unison. Following this, some interesting writing between parts can be heard, when all four flutes are given equally important roles. Dynamics, tempo changes, articulation and so on are all clearly marked. There are a number of melodies in this fun work, which can be played quite easily by players of grade 4 – 5 standard, although there are a number of key changes to keep everyone on their toes! …I look forward to more arrangements from Sylvia Fairley.” — PAN magazine 2004
Bossamanda — Tony Radford for four flutes with rhythm section or piano [Grade 5-6]
Full score and 4 parts + keyboard: £11.50
The ideal accompaniment would consist of piano or keyboard alone, or with double bass or bass guitar and rhythm guitar added. Drums could be used ad lib (though no drum part is written) alternatively, a rhythmic accompaniment could be provided by claves and cabaza.
“This Bossa Nova for four flutes would be very enjoyable for players of about grade 5 or 6 standard. The lead role is shared well between the parts, and the music is varied and buoyant.” — PAN magazine 2008

Flute score, 5 parts + piano: £12.00
Originally written for flute, clarinet and orchestra, Saint-Saëns’ Tarantelle transcribes very effectively for flutes with piano. This arrangement uses the two outer sections, thereby making the piece more compact at a playing speed of about 4 minutes. The Tarantella, Italian in origin, is a fast, energetic dance and needs players who can play it with confidence at a lively speed.
“Highly recommended” — Music Teacher 2004
